My Favorite Pins #5 {Decorating Ideas}

Hi, My name is Jessie and I'm addicted to Pinterest. My decorating wheels are turning and NON-stop recently. I'm laying awake at night dreaming of painting walls in a house that I don't even own yet. Yes, it's a sickness I think and Pinterest just makes it worse!!! (If you missed my post about us buying a house last week you can read that HERE.) This week I wanted to focus on some of my favorite pins that are Interior Design related. Mostly inspiration things for the home I don't have yet....

1 I love that light fixture from IKEA. Love that this room is so bright and white! Beautiful.
2 That pillow is amazing.
3 Love this idea! Little felt balls in a vase. I just love all the colors in the picture also!
4 Love these colors! Talk about the perfect color scheme for my whole house!
5 Re-purposed wood table. YES PLEASE!

Using Pinterest for decorating ideas is very important to me because my tastes have changed a lot. I used to only like white furniture and ultra modern things. I find myself more and more drawn to wood pieces and a mixture of antiques. I know I am going to start collecting tons of globes!!! Now that I will have more room for them. Pinterest is really helping me to see what colors I am drawn to the most. Here is another board, because one is not enough!

Pinterest Favorites #5

1 Those stripes would make me feel like I'm in a candy store!
2 I want to make something like that lamp from vases!
3 I would love to paint a wall with a herringbone pattern!
4 Great colors!
5 Love the idea of using a wall for an office instead of devoting a whole room.
6 Bookcases around the doorway! Very cool idea and function.

So what do you think? Am I nuts? Gosh I can't wait.
It will make the cold winter much more pleasant! Decorating my heart away......

Mini's Out & About #2

Here is my second edition of Mini's Out & About! There was one day last month where I swear I saw like 6 of them in one day! Sadly they were on the other side of the highway while we were driving. Too fast to snap photos. We actually saw one with a roof rack and a bike rack! I was so excited, because that's what we want. :) So here are my next set of Mini's that I have caught photos of while out....

Biking in Windsor, Colorado // 25 miles

Earlier this week I posted about my new bike. On Labor Day we took our bikes down to Windsor, Colorado on a trail we hadn't rode before. It was so beautiful!!!! The scenery was stunning. It made biking much more enjoyable than our usual trail that we ride on in Wyoming. It was nice seeing views of the mountains and we even saw a snake on the trail! We biked 25 miles, which was our first "somewhat" long ride. My new bike really works with me and not against me. I really think I can get into this hobby/sport. It's so fun to be outdoors surrounded by nature. Here are some of my favorite photos from our biking adventure....

Isn't Colorado beautiful? I think we could of biked further, but I really had to pee.
I drink 2 litters of water while biking!
We had no idea where the next bathroom would be so we decided to turn around.
The trail is a total of 43 miles and we hope to do it all next time.

MUSIC i LOVE

Violet inspired me to do this post. She shared some of her current "song crushes" a few weeks ago. I enjoyed listening to her playlist and finding a few new songs I enjoyed. I love music. As many long road trips I have taken by myself, music helps me get THERE! I picked some of my current favorite songs and bands to share with you! I try not to listen to "main stream" music, but at the same time if I love something, screw it! I'm going to love every note and sing along!

Current Favorite Songs // September by Jessie {my mod style} on Grooveshark

I discovered so many bands that were "new" to me by listening to the Twilight Saga Soundtracks. Florence & The Machine, The Black Keys and Band of Skulls! Three of my favorite bands for sure. I love "oldies" like Neil Diamond, Buddy Holly and The Rolling Stones. Most the music I listen to is upbeat. Every Black Keys album is amazing. They have such a unique sound and every album is a bit different. Even Cody listens to them now because of me. Foster The People,...LOVE! :)

So what do you love to listen to? Anything you would suggest for me?
Have a WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!!

Mini's Out & About

Okay, call me crazy, strange and/or weird, but I wanted to start a blog series featuring Mini Coopers that I see around when I am out and about. Cody and I love Mini's. Back in the winter our Saturn VUE was having lots of trouble and we spent $2000 on repairs and new tires. We were so frustrated about it at the time. It felt like the end of the world. We almost drove down to Ft. Collins Colorado to the BMW dealership to look at Mini's. I am so glad we didn't, because I know we would of came home with a new car. Yes, new cars are awesome, but car payments are not. We came to our senses and spent the money on all the repairs for the Saturn and still have no car payments. YAY! One day in June when we were shopping in Colorado I saw this mini and I decided that I wanted to start photographing them....

The coolest one I saw was last weekend at Starbucks and I DIDN'T HAVE MY CAMERA!

Not very many people seem to get the cool decals that the dealership offers.
My dream Mini would be custom painted orange with a hot pink and orange Union Jack roof!
So what do you think, cute or not?

Inspiration: For My Whale Tattoo

I have been plotting up for months ideas for my first tattoo! Yes, first. As long as I can get through the pain of "my first", I have a sneaking suspicion there will be many more to come after that! I have waited years to get one. I have debated and debated on whether or not I wanted to get it done. What started out as maybe wanting a Green Day Kerplunk Flower tattoo over 10 years ago, then just a Hello Kitty about 5 years ago and now has become a want for a whale tattoo! Why did I never get one of those other tattoos? They didn't MEAN anything to me. I didn't just want to get one. Even though, I would probably still enjoy looking at those other tattoos if I had them on my body. Oh look, another girl with a hello kitty tattoo. Whoopie Doo! (Please sense my sarcasm!) As my love for whales and saving the planet in general has grown, the lightbulb over my head grew bright! I knew that a whale was what I wanted.

Whale Tattoos TITLE Whale Tattoos1 LINKS
1 2 3 4

I have been searching the web for inspiration and ideas for what I want my tattoo to look like. I want people to see it and ask me why I have a whale tattooed on my body. It gives me the chance to spark up a conversation about why I think saving whales is so important. Plus I think they are beautiful and fascinating creatures. After learning so much about them, they have earned a special place in my heart.

Where will my tattoo go? Well since my body is a tiny canvas compared to most and go figure I want a tattoo of the biggest mammal on the planet.....I would love it on my right arm. I just think my arm is a bit small to fit it on properly. I guess this is something a tattoo artist will have to help me decide. I am thinking also about starting it on my back and curving it down onto my arm, that way there is more canvas for the artist to work with.

Me Back for Tattoo

I do want my tattoo to have color. I don't want the whale to only be black. I also want to get the saying, "We live because the sea lives", wrapped around it somehow. Paul Watson uses that quote a lot and I believe it's so true. It really pulls at my heart strings. Here are a few drawings and illustrations that I love...

Decisions & more decisions! I should attempt to draw something myself, but fear I am not talented enough. Also I am so scared that I won't be able to find a good tattoo artist. I am going to very picky about who I let tattoo me. Doing all this is so new to me. Any advise or suggestions?

Collecting Childhood Toy Figurines

Whenever I go thrifting or antiquing I am always looking for toy figurines to add to my toy collection. I think it's a sickness. Toy figurines are my favorite thing to collect because they are small. You can collect so many and they still all fit in a small box. The newest figurines I have added to my collection are these little guys....

Toys from Ohio 650x400
2 headed Garfield | Smurf with yellow ribbon | Gonzo from Muppet Babies | Blueberry Muffin from Strawberry Shortcake

Toys From Ohio Gonzo

I had been looking for Gonzo for a longtime! I was obsessed with the Muppet Babies when I was a child. This Gonzo figurine is part of a McDonald's Happy Meal set. I am still attempting to find Animal and Fozzie's hobby horse! It's fun hunting for these guys though. Here is a "retro" video of the McDonald's commercial of the happy meal toys.

WARNING: If you were born in the 1980's be prepared to feel old!!!

Then there are the adorable Strawberry Shortcake figurines! StrawberryShortcakeFigures
I love finding these guys. I haven't taken the time to research how many there actually are.
I probably don't want to know! HA!
I usually find toy figurines I need at the Denver Brass Armadillo.
Once the winter and cold weather come back, Cody and I will start antiquing again.
Collecting toys from your childhood is so fun!
What do you collect?

Thrifty Finds: Harajuku "Mini" Bag

You are about to see what a dork I really am. Over a year ago I was so excited to get my first Harajuku Lover's purse. That was over a year ago and all this time I had not found another one I loved enough to purchase. Last time I went to Goodwill I found this cute Harajuku Mini bag.
Harajuku Mini Bag
It's pretty much like a child's school bag, I think?
The "mini" Harajuku stuff is sold at Target in the little girls department.
I always stop and look at it and wish I had a cute little girl to dress up in the clothing. Harajuku Bag2
I got the bag for $5.00! There was no way I could pass it up.
It's great for traveling. There are so many pockets. I love being organized, especially on a road trip.
Harajuku Bag3
The inside liner is covered in cute little burgers.
The back is striped, which I love! It also has another pocket. Great place for me to store road maps.

The bag really makes me smile. I can't wait to use it!

Why I Recycle & Hope You Will 2

Alright, I am going to do this post the best I can without sounding like I am on a soapbox! Recycling is something that I am very passionate about, just like saving whales and conserving wildlife. It really all goes hand in hand! If you love the ocean, nature, animals, going to parks, the beach or any outdoor activities, then recycling may be something that you do already or maybe you should consider doing. By recycling it creates less waste and we can keep the planet cleaner and enjoy all those things I listed above, for years to come!
RECYCLING 4
The main reason I am have decided to share this post with you is because I only started recycling last summer. I never cared about recycling or the planet. It wasn't something I ever even thought about. My mindset was like most peoples, "Trash goes in the trash can. Done." We all know that certain regions in our country are what I would call "more green" then others. It's not necessarily anyone's fault. Most people just don't THINK about it or may not have a recycling pick up service provided for them.

I grew up in Ohio. Being green or recycling is just not something that was very popular in the area where I was raised. It's sad really. If I would of know years ago how easy it is to recycle and the benefits, I would of started awhile back! The photo below is the Rumpke landfill located near the area of Ohio that I grew up. I drove by this thing my entire life. I chose this picture because it was literally taken on highway 27. This is the view that I saw when I would go to work or shopping daily...
Image Source: Ohio Citizen RECYCLING Mt. RUMPKE
The sight of this large mound of trash wouldn't even effect me. It was just something I had grew up around. Seeing it now breaks my heart. It's actually called "Mt. Rumpke" by the locals. It's pretty much a landmark, as if it's a real mountain. Kinda gross when you think about, and it defiantly has a unique stench. When I was in high school one of my close friends joined the Air Force. Toward the end of his four year enlistment he ended up living in the state of Utah. He would come home to visit me in Ohio and I would beg him to move back. His reply always was, "There are no mountains here." I had not seen mountains or experienced the beautiful scenery the west has to offer, so I didn't really get it. I would joke and say, "Well Ohio has Mt. Rumpke!"

Last year when I moved to California things changed. The beauty of the change that happened to me, is that NO ONE changed me or forced me to change. It was all me and on my own. Things influenced me or I'd like to say "opened my eyes" to things I had never thought of before. First of all just driving across the country and seeing mountains and beautiful scenery opened my eyes. I felt so connected to mother nature and just saw what natural beauty our planet really has to offer us. It really made me want to do my part to help keep it that way!

My roommate that I rented a room from in California recycled. She had probably 6 different small trash cans lined up in her garage where you could place glass, plastic, newspaper, etc. into! It was easy. It would take months for it to really get full enough to have to empty. In the city of Lompoc, CA there is a small recycling center where everyone would drive their recycling to. You did get paid for your recycling also. Since I was only there for a few months I don't know all the details of how the recycling works. I do know she took it all once and it was enough money for her to purchase tons of food. She used the money to purchase steaks and have a cookout for her friends. I guess if getting paid for your recycling helps motivate you, go for it! Whatever works. :) She did it though because she wanted to. The money was just a perk. Here are my main reasons for recycling...

WHY I RECYCLE

1. I LOVE how good it makes me feel // Really it does. It sounds cheesy I know! I feel so happy when I put something in my recycling bin at home or drop recycling off!

2. It's good for our planet & future generations // If you have young family members, children, grand kids, etc... You should consider it for them. All of us have some outside activity that we enjoy. Like I said earlier it all goes hand in hand. Let's keep it clean for us and them to enjoy. :)

3. I want there to be a clean planet for my kids // The thought of my kids not being able to go see the Rocky Mountains or Yellowstone National Park breaks my heart. We all have to learn to take better care of our planet. I want my kids to be raised loving outdoor activities. Know what real mountains are like, not "Mt. Rumpke".

4. It's easy // It is. It took us months to fill up just one small tote of glass jars! If you get yourself some cheap plastic totes, bins or trash cans and get organized you would be amazed at how easy it is.

5. We only have 1 bag of trash a week // This amazes me. This just proves to myself that just about everything that you view as regular trash can be recycled. Before we recycled and we lived at our old apartment, I think we took a bag of trash out daily! Trash bags are expensive also, so it's saving us money!

We are lucky to have a large trash can provided for us for our recycling. They take plastics 1 - 2, cardboard (which is what most food boxes are made of!), junk mail, paper, tin and aluminum. There are many recyclables though that our trash pickup will not take: Glass, plastics 3 - 7 and plastic bags. Now that I pay attention to the amount of bags that stores give you, I use my own shopping bags when I grocery shop. What a great thing it is to not have to bring all those plastic grocery bags home!

Being on our plant based diet we buy tons of produce. Which means lots of the clear produce bags. They are all recyclable so I make sure that I recycle them. We probably use 40 - 50 bags grocery shopping a month. That's just one person. Imagine how many we are all using together? So, it's a huge help to the planet to recycle them verses just throwing them in the regular trash can. Last weekend we drove all of our recycling that could not be recycled in the state of Wyoming down to Ft. Collins, Colorado....
RECYCLING 5
Don't I look happy? I was. I was super excited to be able to leave all my plastic bags at the recycling center!
Cody says I am a nerd! Whatever, maybe I am. I don't care what people think.
I know what I am doing is a very good thing. :)
RECYCLING 6
That huge Disney bag held so many bags. It took months to accumulate all those bags:
Produce, shopping bags, food packaging, baggies and anything that was plastic of any sort went in there!
RECYCLING 2
The recycling area in Ft. Collins was very easy to find. It's basically just a big parking lot with huge dumpsters that are labeled to let you know what can and can not go in them. They make it very simple to just drive up and throw your stuff in. Cody threw our small tote worth of glass in there while I took his picture. LOL
RECYCLING 3
It was a good day! Now our garage is empty and I am starting my recycling over.
I hope to come up with a cute decorative way to organize my recycling, I just haven't thought of anything yet.
IKEA has great recycling bins, so I might just buy some of those next time we go. RECYCLING 1
One thing that I have noticed lately is that when we eat at Subway their wrapping that goes around the sandwich, bags, drink cups and napkins are all recyclable. The packing even says "please recycle" on it. Yet there is no where in the restaurant to do that. I find that a bit ironic and upsetting. That's a lot of stuff that could be recycled everyday all over the country. It's so simple to just put a recycling trash can out. IKEA is great about having marked trash cans for regular trash and a recycling trash can side by side. During my last trip to the Denver IKEA, someone had thrown away their PLASTIC (cleary recyclable) cup in the regular trash can verses moving their arm over a 1/2 inch to the recycling / plastic can! It made me so angry and sad at the same time.

I recently read the quote, "Be the change that you wish to see in the world."

It touched my heart more then any quote ever has in my entire life.
That is me and where I am in my everyday life!
That is also why I decided to post this and share my feelings with you.
I'll leave it at that.....
Love,
Jessie
