Time for a VLOG

I decided to get up enough courage to do another VLOG. My topics for this Vlog are: No Reply Bloggers, Google Friend Connect, BlogLovin, Blogging Topics and General Blogging Advise from me. I ramble a lot, so my Vlog is 13 minutes long! I almost didn't share it because of it's length but I do cover a lot of topics! I hope you enjoy it! I love the funny face that I seem to be making...

You can see my first Vlog HERE.
Link to a No Reply Blogger post HERE.
If you are having trouble seeing my video you can also watch it HERE.
Update: Apparently I was confused about some of the details of a "no reply blogger".
I typed this post to try to explain it MORE. Thanks! :)

  1. Oh my god, I have read so much things about "no reply bloggers" and I always though "yes that sucks" and now I found that I'm one myself! I didn't even know and I've changed it immediately. There's a little problem with your video though, after "the bloglovin app on my phone...", it stops? I can't watch it after that point :/ xo

  2. Oh do you know I agree with everything here that you said. And yay for another vlog! I'm working on doing another one as well. I'm finding I really enjoy them (well as long as I don't go back and watch myself...).

On the topic of the no-reply blogger, someone came to me a few weeks ago and told me I'm a no-reply blogger. She explained a different definition and when I researched I found the same. She explained that being a no-reply blogger means that she can't directly email you. So, in her case, she prefers not to reply to her commenters on the blog but by sending a direct email. By being a no-reply blogger they can't send you a direct email from your comment. So I did research on how to not be a no-reply blogger and it turned out it was something simple, actually just a check in a box. So I did that and then she said "ya you are a reply blogger now." When she first contacted me she used my contact form but after that she would use my comment and send me a reply that way. Though the reply she sent me, because I'm now a reply blogger, did not show up on her blog but was sent directly to me. That's my understanding of a no-reply blogger. That they can directly send you a message and when they do their comment doesn't show up on their blog- only you get it in your email. So actually it looks like they don't reply to their people, which I did caution her on that and how that appears. However, it doesn't change my getting emails. If someone replies to me on their blog, when they use Blogger, I do not get emails. It's why I'm sporadic in my replies to you because I go back and look them up. Being a no-reply just means that they can reply directly to you, where it doesn't show up on their blog that they replied, but it shows up in your email. And that's what I was finding when I was researching. So I'm still not sure how to get emails when people using Blogger reply to me on their blog and it drives me nuts. I would like to do more research because I always get emails for people using Wordpress or Typepad but not Blogger.

    1. I knew you would enjoy this Vlog Aubrey! :) I know of one blogger that I follow who also says she like to email her readers directly. When I do get an email from her it says [reply to comment] then her blog name. So, this is why I hate attempting to explain it. hahaha So I guess I'm wrong. I thought it would send you an email automatically. That's why I told everyone to Google it. This is a rather frustrating problem. Maybe I should look into a different comment format. I want my readers to get my replies to their inbox and I want it on my blog. I am going to do some research as well. No one should have to keep going back to all the blogs they read to view comments. That is not time friendly at all!!!! Together you and I will figure this out! ;)

  4. Thank you so much for mentioning that it's not necessary to stay to certain blog topics. I have struggled with this over the years feeling that my blog is all over the place and that my interests change constantly. I have come to realize that's okay. It's just who I am. I get interested in something for awhile and then it ends up on the back burner. I miss the days when people blogged just to talk about they thought and liked rather than these days where everyone is trying to put up a new craft every single day just for the sake of trying to turn their blog into a business. Not that there's anything wrong with a blog as a business, but I want to feel that the person is really being authentic. I love that you blog about what you care about and what's on your mind at the moment. I also like commenting back to people who comment on my blog. I like that it feels more like a conversation with them.

    1. Oh I hear ya Kimberly. I was so fed up with this whole "niche" thing that I wrote a little post on it as well. It's just hogwash. Human beings are niches, categories or labels. When it comes to blogs we should do it the way we want to. I feel that is the best way, like you mentioned, to be authentic.

    2. I am so glad you read this Kim! I guess I'm still an "old school" blogger myself. lol I love my photos and somewhat fancy blog design, but I also just enjoy sharing simple things. I don't have any money right now to finish all the million projects I need to do around the house. So, no DIY projects or room reveals on the blog. That's life and that's my blog. :)

    3. Yes! For a while I started to think that I was 'doing it wrong' when it came to blogging. I sat down and tried to narrow my blog down to five main things that I would talk about and it just didn't work. I don't have money to do crafts or projects all the time but once in awhile it pops up, same with everything else in my life. I love blogs that show what life is really like.

    4. Me too! I like the blogs more if they actually share the details of the life of the blogger more. :) Shows they are indeed human. lol

    1. Yes, I don't know if I actually explained it correctly or not. I am confused now. I think I may just have to start emailing people back with a comment?! Why blogger makes things so confusing I don't know!

  7. You did an awesome vlog! You're also a very good speaker (I would be saying umm and ahh every 2 seconds!). I had to triple check that I'm not a no-reply blogger! I didn't think I was, but I hate the thought! I actually just set my comments to be approved every time to force me to read and reply to all of them. I thought it would be a pain to get an e-mail every time someone comments, but that's a horrible way to think about it! Now I'm happy when I get an e-mail that someone has taken the time to read what I posted.

    1. Thanks Karen! I feel like I still ramble and say umm too much. It's harder to talk in front of a camera then you would think. Thanks for watching!

  8. Jessie, Jessie, Jessie!!! I am so in love with this post. I have very similar sentiments with you about the whole GFC number thing. It really can make your emotions go back and forth. But, I try not to let it bother me as far as valuing the importance of my blog or the loyalty and appreciation of bloggers I follow. But I do prefer it over the Bloglovin' method. Maybe I'm not using Bloglovin' to its full potential. You gave some great advice here. Being Unique is essential. Very great video. Didn't seem long at all. Thanks so much for this post!!!

  10. I loved watching your Vlog! ESPECIALLY the last portion about basically talking and sharing what you love. I thought I was talking, literally. Haha, we aligned so perfectly there. I feel the same way about spreading information and sharing what you believe in. It's hard being a vegetarian/vegan because some people assume every time you post about it, that means you're trying to change their minds. And I know we've talked about this before, but I am in the same situation where I am living now. I stand out, it's not even vegetarian friendly and I work from home. I've been living here for a year and a half and still feel like an outcast, so it's so nice to hop online and be able to talk to real people in basically real time over blogs or Twitter or Instagram. You rocked this vlog girl! ♥

    1. I think a lot of bloggers feel they can relate to each other more then other people sometimes. It's amazing how we all find each other. :) Thanks for your comment. I emailed you a response, now that I finally figured out this silly no reply blogger thing.

  11. This vlog was awesome! Thank you so much for sharing all of this information. I had never heard of a 'no reply blogger' either! I'm going to go and check if my blog is set up that way right now and fix it! Thank you so much for posting this vlog, it was great to learn a little more about blogging and about you! I hope that you do another one soon!

p.s. I love that one of your little kitties poked his head in the bottom left corner of the frame at just before 3 minutes! Haha!

  12. Very good advice! I try not to get stuck on the follower numbers but it can be hard. It is nice that we can find friends through blogging and it's nice to think you have friends all over the country/world!
