I finally can say that I own something designed by Jonathan Adler. FINALLY.

We went to Barnes & Noble the other day to look at cookbooks and I saw the Jonathan Adler display. I was drawn to it like a magnet. I knew I had to have these kitty's....
I purchased them to display a few books on my orange Billy bookcase in the living room. (photo coming soon!) While thrifting I found these vintage books for $2...
I am always telling everyone else to decorate with vintage books and decided maybe I should do it! You can find some great books to that fit into your color scheme. I plan to use some new books also. My living room is currently a "work in progress". I also wanted to share with you a post by Elisabeth of Bova Goods. I didn't get a job so that I could spend $175 on a decorative pillow, but dam it's tempting! I am so in love with the new pillows from Jonathan Adler...The colors and patterns are amazing. Even Cody loves them,....just not the price. This is probably my current favorite color scheme: Pink, Blue and Orange! YUMMY!

Can I please cook in this kitchen? I have a soft spot in my heart for all white shiny bright kitchens. Plus, this one has Jonathan Adler accessories. I am so jealous.

I would say 90% of the time that I am decorating for myself I often wonder, "What would Jonathan Adler do?" When I found my vintage green curtains the other day I stared at them trying to decide if they needed to come home with me or not. I hadn't planned on putting green in my living room, but then again I really have no plan. For once there is no design board to follow and I am just using what I find. I see how Jonathan can put together just about any color scheme and it somehow always works! My plan is just go with it and see what happens.

I love this simple white living room. The pops of blues and turquoises from all the JA pillows is so beautiful.

Colors & Patterns & Decorating, OH MY!

When I think of decorating a room for myself I get very overwhelmed. I am my own worst client. I can give other people ideas all day long. My problem is I like so much stuff that I can't decide what I like best. I love just about every color and I don't even have just one "favorite" color anymore. lol I have about 20 patterns I want to use in my next house. I want wallpaper, hand-painted stripes and a turquoise ceiling! Cody looks at me like a deer in head lights.

Not to long ago I made a design board for ideas for my future kitchen. I feel it is the only room that I know exactly what I want. Everything else is kinda a blank slate in my head. Sadly Cody and I don't even know if we are going to be able to buy a house and I have fallen in love with one that is 1,200 miles from California. (Where we think we are going to be moving.) I haven't even stepped foot in to it. All it took was the 8 pictures I saw of the home online. Now the decorating ideas are pouring out of my head!!!!

I had this great thought the other day about Jonathan Adler. He is my favorite designer because of all the colors and crazy patterns he uses together. I thought that since I am in California I should go visit one of his stores. It may be my only chance to see his products up close and in person. I told Cody I really want him to go with me so I can get a feel for what Cody does and does not like. Not only is Cody an awesome husband, but he tends to like all my decorating tastes. (Except anything to do with pink.)

My next home will definitely be influenced by Jonathan Adler's style, but I will also make sure it is my style. I do not intend to just go out and buy a bunch of his stuff and copy his look. I still want it to look like Jessie and Cody's house! Plus, I can't afford his stuff anyways! lol I can't buy a $3000 couch and let my cats lay on it.

I am going to spend sometime putting decor ideas together to get myself more organized. I want to really figure out what is that I love and make it happen! I told Cody this will be my best design project yet! I can't wait for the challenge.

Dose of Jonathan Adler

By the end of this year I will finally be settled into a place to live. Where ever we move will be for at least a few years. I will be able to decorate again. I still do not own any of Jonathan Adlers books! He influences my decorating the most and I plan to make my next home very happy and colorful! Here is some inspiration...

Arrangement by Jonathan Adler

Jonathan Adler inspires me more and more everyday. I have been looking at his designs daily to really see what draws me to his design style. I find that most everything that I love about interior design he has incorporated into the spaces he decorates. I stumbled across an article that he wrote about arrangement and found it very helpful. I wanted to share it with you!



I think when you have a pile of stuff and you start to place it on a dresser or in your bookcase, it can be very overwhelming. Hopefully these images and Jonathan's advise may be helpful to you and myself! Enjoy :)

{Artful design is all in the balance}

For arranging, this means juxtaposing silhouettes and colors – highlight differences between pieces or draw out their similarities.

Start by establishing framing

Items in a room or on a surface should be composed as you would paint a canvas, with scale, sequencing, and balance conceived from one specific vantage point. Consoles, bookshelves and artworks are generally viewed from a frontal perspective, while furnishings – such as dining room tables and coffee tables – are viewed in the round and should be accessorized accordingly.

1. For fool proof arrangements, start with SYMMETRY.



A pair of blue glass lamps anchors either end of the white dresser to establish the tone. Although the lamps are different sizes, symmetry comes through the repeated color.

I balanced the different lamp height by pairing the taller one with a shorter cluster of objects – and vice versa.

Hang plates in unusual locations to fill up white wall space and round compositions.

2. Symmetry is the easiest and most logical way to accessorize, while ASYMMETRY is more challenging – but also more fun!



Here, I grouped numerous items into series of little moments: one book is propped up vertically, like a painting; a stack of plates anchors a bud vase; another vase gets a lift from a Lucite box; etc.

3. Mix SYMMETRY and ASYMMETRY



One half of the tableau is arranged symmetrically, the other half is asymmetrical. Look at the overall composition, but break it down into constituent parts.
