Thrifty Finds: Wingback Chairs

A few weeks back Cody and I were out thrifting and stumbled upon these wingback chairs! If you would of asked me five years ago if I ever thought I'd like wingback chairs the answer would of been NO! I fell in love with these beauties as soon as I saw them! I knew right away that I wanted them for our front living room...

Thrifted Chairs3 They are Chloe approved! She is already using them to gaze out the window... Thrifted Chairs2
I really like the fabric they are covered in.
In the future I would love to get them reupholstered in something a bit more pet friendly. Thrifted Chairs1Thrifted Chairs4

The chairs cost $85 for the pair. Way cheaper then anything I could buy new and they are super comfy. They are so tall that they remind me of something that you'd see at a Mad Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland. I'd love to share more photos with you, but it would show too much of the living! I am saving that for another post. I painted the entire room over the weekend and I don't have the photos ready yet. I'm trying... :) This post is linked over at A Living Space & Lara's Vintage! Thrifty Finds: Vintage $8 Bookcase

There is a really cool antique store where I live that I love visiting every few weeks. Before we went on vacation I had spotted this bookcase that was priced at only $8! I thought about it all the time and a few weeks passed. I decided I had to have it. Luckily it hadn't sold when I went back and now it's in my bedroom....

Bookcase1

Of course Chloe had to check it out right away! I didn't need this bookcase but I wanted to save it.
I think it is so cute. It's handmade and did come with sliding doors if I want to use them in the future.

Bookcase2

It could use some love. I may paint it someday or do something else fun to it!
My Keep Calm & Carry On print looks way too high now!

Bookcase3

The items in the bookcase where sitting on my dresser before. I like my dresser cleared off better.
So I guess I did need the bookcase??? HA!

Bookcase4 Bookcase5

I love finding inexpensive furniture!
If we buy a house I'm going to go crazy with second hand furniture and vintage pieces.
It will be amazing. :)

What would you do with this piece? Paint it or leave it?
Any other ideas???

Brass Armadillo & More Pyrex!

Over the weekend Cody and I decided to head down to the Denver Brass Armadillo. I think this is our 4th trip now, maybe 5th. I still enjoy it every time. We seem to always find what we are looking for! We wanted MORE PYREX. With all the booths there you really have to look because some were cheap and others were OUTRAGEOUS!

BrassArmadillo1 8.25.12
I always snap pictures of stuff that I find interesting or fun while antiquing!
The big "&" metal sign was $75. Cody said NO!
If you collect Barbies, there are a million there!
BrassArmadillo6 8.25.12
I am in love with the antique cabinet above! Seem weird?
I really want a cabinet to paint a bright color and put some of my toy collection in!
I would only paint something that's not in very good shape.
The cabinet above is priced at $449. It won't be coming home with me anytime soon. :(
BrassArmadillo5 8.25.12
The Pyrex above was very pricey. Very pretty to look at, but not affordable for me.
Then we came to a booth I could afford! You can see how happy I was...
BrassArmadillo3 8.25.12
I just started digging. There were so many colors and patterns!
I debated on the snowflake pattern. I love the color, but hate snow. LOL
Snowflakes remind me of snow, so I decided to pass on that pattern.
BrassArmadillo2 8.25.12
When it was time to leave, I told the cashier we didn't want any bags or the items wrapped.
He said, "Really??" and I replied, "Yeah, I'm like a hippie that doesn't believe in bags." He laughed.
I was so happy leaving the store without bags and wrapping paper! YAY!
So what did I get?
BrassArmadillo7 8.25.12
A whole bunch of cuteness!!!
BrassArmadillo9 8.25.12
My favorite thing I got is the bowl below.
We bought it to hold our coffee beans!!!
(We are such coffee junkies!)
This piece is actually Fire King!

If you missed it, you can view the Pyrex I scored last week HERE.
Why Pyrex you may ask? I want to be GREEN and plastics are harmful to our health!
I am trying to cut down on my plastic use and purchases as much as I can. :)
Plus Pyrex is just awesome anyways.

Thrifty Finds: PYREX

After watching the movie BAG IT, Cody and I were inspired to challenge ourselves to a less "plastic life." Since going Vegan we pack our lunch all the time and use reusable plastic containers. Everyone does right? We all have a million of them. Cody and I have decided that we are slowly going to start using less plastic. One thing we are doing is buying vintage Pyrex. This will replace all the plastic we use for left overs in our fridge. I found some awesome collections online that I wanted to share with you....

I love all the colors together. It's like PURE VINTAGE HAPPINESS!!!
I love that I am also shopping second hand. Too much plastic is being produced in the world and
these beautiful pieces of Pyrex are just sitting at antique malls and thrift stores waiting to be purchased!

Cody and I are thinking about buying a house and I keep thinking about how cool it would be to decorate with Pyrex.
We most likely would do a kitchen remodel and add some glass door cabinets to display all the colorful pieces!
So of course Cody and I were ready to start shopping.
We hit some great antique shops over the weekend and here is what we found... New Pyrex1 Aug 2012
We kept finding the small covered dishes in red and blue, priced at $10 each!
I am way cheaper then that. Plus I don't want the primary colors.
My favorite Pyrex pattern is Daisy, which is the large orange covered dish on the bottom.
We picked up a few other glass items as well.
A cute glass container with a yellow lid and a syrup dispenser....
New Pyrex2 Aug 2012
A few years back I started collecting the Daisy pattern. I have the mixing bowl set and a smaller covered dish!
It was so fun hunting for things with Cody yesterday.
I am so lucky to have an awesome husband who appreciates good vintage pieces!!!

Do you collect Pyrex? What pattern is your favorite??

You can view my other Pyrex HERE. I use it in my Alice in Wonderland display in my dining room.

My Vintage Flower Pins

I have many collections.  One that really makes me smile is my collection of vintage flower pins.  I don't have to many of them, but they are so fun to look at...
Flower Pins 650x1100
I am never lucky enough to find any at thrift stores. All mine have been purchased at antique malls.
Flower Pins2 650x1100
Aren't they just pure happiness? Here is where I keep them...
Flower Pins 3
I just leave them in a vintage vase sitting on my Billy Bookcase in my Living Room.
I would love to display them a shadow box someday.
Maybe they would be cute in a little girl's nursery hanging on the wall as art? hhhmmmm...

Guest Bedroom Update

I am making progress on my guest bedroom. I decided to purchase a mattress online since the mattress we wanted was unable to be delivered. I hate asking friends with trucks for help, so I just went with buying one from Walmarts website. The mattress came rolled up in a bag...
Guest Bedroom Mattress1
I had never purchased something like this online before. I didn't really know what to except. I had a feeling that when we opened the plastic up covering the mattress all hell was going to break lose. I was right. To prepare for that, we laid the mattress on top of the bed frame and moved out of the way as the mattress flew open...
Guest Bedroom Mattress2
I wish I would of got better action shots of the mattress opening up. It was pretty funny. You can see Cody laughing in the picture above. If you ever buy a mattress like this, be careful! Get the heck out of the way!
Guest Bedroom Mattress3
Overall the mattress was cheap and you get what you pay for. It is very firm and uncomfortable. I went and purchased a memory foam topper for $30 at Walmart to add some cushion. Now I am just working on all the finishing touches in the room. I have nice white bedding that I purchased. Now I just need to find some bright colored pillows to brighten it up!

I forgot that I never shared a photo of the dresser I found for the bedroom... Guest Bedroom Dresser
It's a great mid-century piece. We paid $95 for it, which was more then I wanted to spend on a dresser for our guest room. We both love it though and sooner or later it will be used by us or a nursery if I ever decide to have a baby. I will post more pictures of it when I reveal the finished room!

Thrifty Finds: My Living Room Chairs

While thrifting a few weeks ago I found some cute mid-century modern chairs! It was $15 for the pair.
I needed chairs to put at my vintage table in my living room. I was getting so sick of looking! Everything I wanted started at $150 each. When you go thrifting over and over and NEVER find anything, you get very discouraged. I am glad I didn't go buy anything expensive and was patient.
LR Painted Chairs1
I am very happy with the end result. The fabric is from JoAnn's and only cost me $6 for 2yards!
LR Painted Chairs2
The fabric gave me another POP of turquoise in my living room! YAY!
LR Chairs3
Chloe likes to wiggly, run in circles and play when I am trying to photograph her! She is so cute!
LR Chairs4
Stay tuned for photos of the entire living room!
(and more cute pictures of Chloe.)

Design Board - My Guest Bedroom {think green}

I have been dreaming up a design for My Guest Bedroom. I want to buy most of my stuff from antique shops and thrift stores. (minus the mattress and bedding. Gross.) I am not against buying a cool vintage bedspread or blanket if it's clean. I am obsessed with the color green {today} and being GREEN. I thought it would be cute and fun to kinda have that theme in the guest bedroom...
Design Board My Guest Bedroom
The bed frame is from IKEA. The pillow is from JcPenney. Everything else is just things I found doing google image searches for vintage items and earth related artwork. The bedding is from Macy's....
Guest Bedroom Bedding from Macys
I love the crisp clean look of this bedding. I think it would be perfect to balance out all the bright accessories I would like to put into the room. The price on the other hand, NO!!! I could never spend that much on bedding. I am not wired that way. I think it's an easy look and style to duplicate on a shoe string budget. (It's just white!) I am sure I can find something at Ross, TJ Maxx or Home Goods. I decided that my vintage green curtains were a great inspiration piece for my design. Green looks good with so many colors, but I lean towards adding pops of yellow and aquas to the room. I think the color scheme will go well with vintage accessories and furniture.

I am sure kelly green and yellow is out of style this year. Seems like last year that is all you saw everywhere. Well lucky for me I don't follow design trends,...I follow what my heart desires. (You should 2!) As much as I want to stick to only shopping for things at thrift stores, I am sure I will find some cute little ceramic owl on a clearance rack at Pier 1! With all this said, I am going shopping today. The sun is out and it's way to nice to sit inside on my computer.

Denver Brass Armadillo {trip 2}

When I am antiquing I am truly happy. I love spending hours at antique malls looking at tons and tons of stuff.
The Brass Armadillo is at the top of my list!
BA 10BA 2BA 3
The chair I am sitting on was only $62 and in fairly good shape. It was a great chair from the 1950's era. We got some coffee from the cafe that's in the Brass Armadillo. It took us almost 5 hours to go through the place. We needed the caffeine boost! I would have loved to have had the pink cat clock below. She had eyelashes!
BA 1BA 4BA 5
Yes, I found Domino magazines! I know most of us miss Domino and I thought about buying them, but didn't.
BA 6BA 7BA 8
I love license plates that look vintage. I may buy one of these next time I go back to the Brass Armadillo.

Ohio Jim Beam Decanter | Kitty Figurine & Kitty Tin from England | Garfield "Born 2 Party"

I was super excited to find the Ohio Decanter for only $3.80! I don't collect Jim Bean Decanters, I just wanted it because it's Ohio. The Garfield made me laugh! I have many Garfield stuffed animals, but I have never seen the "Born 2 Party" Garfield before. He is now my favorite. The kitty stuff was just adorable!

I highly recommend the Denver Brass Armadillo if you enjoy antiquing. It's one of my favorite malls. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes! They have a small cafe' where you can eat or get some coffee!!! It's a great place to go this time of year.
