Thrifty Finds: Wingback Chairs

A few weeks back Cody and I were out thrifting and stumbled upon these wingback chairs! If you would of asked me five years ago if I ever thought I'd like wingback chairs the answer would of been NO! I fell in love with these beauties as soon as I saw them! I knew right away that I wanted them for our front living room...

Thrifted Chairs3 They are Chloe approved! She is already using them to gaze out the window... Thrifted Chairs2
I really like the fabric they are covered in.
In the future I would love to get them reupholstered in something a bit more pet friendly. Thrifted Chairs1Thrifted Chairs4

The chairs cost $85 for the pair. Way cheaper then anything I could buy new and they are super comfy. They are so tall that they remind me of something that you'd see at a Mad Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland. I'd love to share more photos with you, but it would show too much of the living! I am saving that for another post. I painted the entire room over the weekend and I don't have the photos ready yet. I'm trying... :) This post is linked over at A Living Space & Lara's Vintage! Thrifty Finds: My Living Room Chairs

While thrifting a few weeks ago I found some cute mid-century modern chairs! It was $15 for the pair.
I needed chairs to put at my vintage table in my living room. I was getting so sick of looking! Everything I wanted started at $150 each. When you go thrifting over and over and NEVER find anything, you get very discouraged. I am glad I didn't go buy anything expensive and was patient.

I am very happy with the end result. The fabric is from JoAnn's and only cost me $6 for 2yards!
LR Painted Chairs2
The fabric gave me another POP of turquoise in my living room! YAY!
LR Chairs3
Chloe likes to wiggly, run in circles and play when I am trying to photograph her! She is so cute!
LR Chairs4
Stay tuned for photos of the entire living room!
(and more cute pictures of Chloe.)

Thrifty Finds {Decor 4 My Guest Bedroom}

Once I decided that I wanted to make a guest bedroom in our home, I knew it was going to have to be on a tight budget!  I really didn't want to just drive down to IKEA and buy a bunch of furniture.  I wanted to be thrifty!  I went to my local antique shops, thrifts stores and I was super lucky!!!
Thrifty Finds Collage1
The books are for guests to read.  I spent around $8 for all of them.
I found many picture frames that I can spray paint and frame some cute artwork in quickly!  I have to have the guest bedroom decorated by the first week in June.  I was so excited to find all this stuff because usually when I go thrifting I find maybe one or two things.  Here is a close up of the tacky floral art I found...
Thrifty Finds Tacky Art
I loved the lines of the frame!  I am going to cover the floral part with a pretty fabric or paint a picture to place in the frame, not sure yet.  I use scrapbook paper a lot to make artwork and pictures POP more...
Thrift Finds Woodsy Art
The picture frame will be spray painted white.
I love this Woodsy the owl picture.  The bedroom will have a very "Think Green" theme, so I found this picture very fitting.  This is also why I am trying to buy mostly second hand items to decorate with.  It really makes it fun and exciting!  I like looking at the room knowing that I saved stuff from going to a landfill, I saved tons of money and it has a cute vintage flair.  It's really a win win situation.  Here is some of the furniture we found for the room....
Thrifty Finds Collage3
I loved that Cody went shopping with me.  He actually helped me pick out the furniture.  It was nice doing it together and letting him have a say in what we bought for the room.  He loved the vintage chair.  (Probably loved the price more, $18!)  We figured it was a great chair to have reupholstered someday.  It does rock, so if I ever have a baby someday it's a great nursery chair.  I picture it covered in some orange vinyl!
Thrifty Finds Cody in Chair
I did also get a pair of chairs for our living room and a very cool mid-century modern dresser! I will have a before and after of the chairs next week! The dresser wouldn't fit in the car, so we have to go pick it up next weekend. I can't wait to get the guest bedroom decorated. I will be painting the nightstand and headboard this week.  You can see my design board for my guest bedroom {HERE}.

Thrifty Finds

I am so glad to be home again after my trip to Ohio. It has taken me a few days to get used to the Mountain time zone and my daily routine. I had lots of unpacking to do. Cody had the house so nice and clean,.....then I came home with all my crap. I did some shopping while in Ohio. I didn't buy to much, but I did want to share with you a few things that I found while thrifting!
Cincinnati Mug & Flour CanisterThrift Finds cincymug and flourcanister
I hope to find the whole canister set! (Sugar, Coffee & Tea)
Pair of Brass Lamps $8.00
Thrift Finds pair of lamps
I found the great {ugly} pair of lamps for $8 at Goodwill! Mandi from Vintage Revivals has taught me that anything brass and ugly from the thrift store can be transformed into something beautiful! Also, if you ever find a matching pair BUY THEM. It's a rare thing to find a pair still together. We are considering setting up a guest bedroom and these would be perfect bedside lamps. They will be painted yellow, turquoise or lime green. The best part about buying the lamps was Cody's face. So much fear. He doesn't always see my design vision. LOL I also got a few cute pieces of clothing while thrifting....
Bengals Jersey, Love is Everything Shirt, Jeans, Pink Skirt and Purse!
Thrift Finds clothes
I got all this for $12.69! The best thing is the Harajuka Lover's purse.
It retails for $14 new at a discount store like Ross. I got it for $1.99.
Bird Vase
Thrift Finds birdvase
This cute vase was only 75 cents! I love things with birds on them.
Globes
Globes
Apparently I am going to start collecting globes, as if I need another thing to collect! HA! I had thought about buying a few our last trip to Brass Armadillo but held off. Well we decided to go to IKEA and Brass Armadillo over the weekend. I picked up both the globes at the Brass Armadillo for only $35. Collection started. Globes do take up a lot of space, so I don't plan on just buying any. I like smaller ones which seem to be harder to find. I did also buy some goodies from IKEA. I can't wait to share them with you, but that will be for another post this week! Lots of decorating happening at my house. I want it to feel finished and more like HOME! Hope you all had a great weekend!

Jonathan Adler Kitty Bookends

I finally can say that I own something designed by Jonathan Adler. FINALLY.
Bookends Box
We went to Barnes & Noble the other day to look at cookbooks and I saw the Jonathan Adler display. I was drawn to it like a magnet. I knew I had to have these kitty's....
Bookends out of box
I purchased them to display a few books on my orange Billy bookcase in the living room. (photo coming soon!) While thrifting I found these vintage books for $2...
Bookends w-vintage books
I am always telling everyone else to decorate with vintage books and decided maybe I should do it! You can find some great books to that fit into your color scheme. I plan to use some new books also. My living room is currently a "work in progress". I also wanted to share with you a post by Elisabeth of Bova Goods. She has a beautiful collection of Condensed Reader's Digest books that really inspired me to buy vintage books! Check out her post {HERE}

My Thrifted Hexagon Table

I finally painted my table that I purchased a few months ago at a thrift store for $10! I decided to spray paint it Rust-Oleum Berry Pink. I still have to find knobs for it, because unfortunately it was missing one.
Hexagon Table Before
The first thing I did was sanded the table and primed it using BULLS EYE 1-2-3 Primer. I also used Rust-Oleum spray paint primer to get the ornate design on the wood better.
Hexagon Table Logo1
The table is in our front entryway. It's the first thing you see when you walk into our house.Hexagon Table 2
I have had the mirror for years! It used to be gold and I painted it white...Mirror1Hexagon Table3
I am really happy with the way the table came out! I am so sick of my ugly rental walls. I don't want to paint because we probably will be moving again in a year anyways. Looking around my house I notice that it looks like a toy store / fun house or something. All the colors and toys for decor. lol I plan to make our next home more "grown up".

Key Lime Green Curio

Things that I am drawn to has changed so much when it comes to decorating. Cody will see me pick out certain things while we are shopping, and he just gives me this look that says,"Oh! Please No! That's not going in our house!" I have been so inspired by other bloggers to buy more second hand items and breath new life into them. In the past I would buy furniture all the time that I planned on painting. Problem was I lacked motivation and time. Things are different now. I try to only have so many projects at a time to pace myself. Last weekend I found this cute little Wall Curio Cabinet for $7.00....
Wall Cabinet Before
The weather was mild enough this week to spray paint out on my patio. I lightly sanded the cabinet because it did have a glossy finish. I used Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Spray Paint. First I applied 1 coat of primer. The only color of spray paint I had was Key Lime....
Wall Cabinet Paint
I decided instead of going and buying more paint I would just use what I had. Plus, I love the bright Key Lime green. I applied about 3 coats. Some of the little corners were hard to get and I had to apply more paint to them. I love how bright the green is....
Wall Cabinet Green1
I am very happy with the end result. I bought it with the plan of putting some of my toy figurines in it...
Wall Cabinet Finished
The cabinet is hanging in our front entry by our front door! I still have many projects for the front entry area, so I will reveal it when I get more projects finished.

Some NEW & OLD Stuff

So I have spent the last few days packing, packing and packing. Cody and I spent Sunday packing up all of my toy collection. Even though I had just set it up, it was good to be able to pack it in an organized way. It was all just throw together before. This time I was able to label each and every tote with exactly what was in it. I never had a chance to share the photo of my Hello Kitty stuff...
Billy Bookcase with Hello Kitty
The Billy bookcase also held some Vinylmations, Teddy Bears and other things from my collection. I also had hung what I call,"My Smurf Shelf"...
Smurf Wooden Shelf
It has cute little openings that Smurfs fit into perfectly! We also hung a cheap shelf from Home Depot above the shelf for another place to put some cute toys. (We needed a special place for Cody's Vader Helmet!) Over the weekend I also added a few new things to my collection. I found this great Alice In Wonderland little golden book for only 53 cents...
Alice Book
The Disney Store had the White Rabbit stuffed animal on sale for only $5.99! I was super excited to finally have him...
White Rabbit
We also stopped at all the local thrift shops over the weekend. I found a cute little hexagon table that I plan to paint. Not sure what I am going to do with it yet, but for $10 it had to come home with me...
Thrifted Table
It reminds me of my childhood because my parents had one just like it when I was growing up. Last but not least, a photo of my dollhouse...
Dollhouse Painted Exterior
My dollhouse project is at a stand still right now! It needs way more money then I can give it. lol I can't justify buying hundreds of dollars worth of stuff for it. I don't even have dining room chairs of my own right now!! For now I just look for stuff at thrift shops and antique stores hoping to get lucky. It will just be a slow process. There is no way I will have my decorated and done when everyone else is! Oh well. Soon I will move again and have REAL rooms to decorate! Woo-hoo!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Thrift Store Find: Nightstands

I am super excited because I finally found a pair of nightstands for our bedroom! Everything I found online was to expensive and there was nothing unique about them. I found these nightstands for only $18!
WY Bedroom Nightstand (Before)

I plan to paint them white, but maybe pink. I love the detail on the drawer fronts. I will try to find some new hardware also! It's so nice to not have my lamp on the floor anymore!!

Colorado and A Huge Ottoman

I finally can say I made it to Colorado, one of the only states I hadn't see this year. Cody and I decided to spend the other day thrifting in Fort Collins Colorado! I am on the hunt for a vintage sofa, because I just don't feel like dropping over $1500 on new stuff from Macy's! Colorado is beautiful just like I expected...
Colorado 1Colorado 2
I can't wait to go as far as Denver. I know there are lots of wonderful things to see in Colorado and plan to see all of it! For now we just drive to the closer stuff and save the long road trips for the future.
Colorado 3Colorado 4
We had no luck finding a Couch. We did find this awesome Ottoman for $145!
Ottoman 1
Yes, it needs some love. Not sure what I plan to do with it yet. Once we find a sofa I will be able to pick out new fabric for the ottoman. I would love a bright turquoise velvet fabric and paint the frame white.
Ottoman 2Chloe loves the ottoman already...Chloe on Ottoman
I also found this awesome mirror the other day at Goodwill for $6. I plan to spray paint it some bright color. (Probably pink)
Mirror for BlogCody and I just keep going to local thrift shops daily in hope that we will find a sofa finally!
