FINALLY SOLD OUR HOUSE

It is nice that I can finally say that we SOLD our house. I stopped mentioning it on the blog because it seems I was just jinxing myself. As soon as things turned around it would all just fall through again. Our bank was hell to work with. It took them 2 months to just "accept" the offer we got on August 18th. Then they didn't want to close till November 19th. Then November 19th came and our bank still wasn't ready with all their paperwork. It has been a nightmare. Finally we got a call around 5pm Monday night that they wanted to close last night. (One day notice)

our house white

In the beginning of November Cody had stopped by our house to check the mail. Cody entered the house to discover that someone was in it stealing the copper piping out of the basement. It was noon when this happened. The thief ended up getting away, busting out one of the basement windows. The cops had got there quick but not quick enough. Sadly Cody did not have his cell phone on him that day, so he had to run to a neighbors house which lost him time.

That was the last day I went to the house. I was so angry and felt so violated that someone had broken into our home. The house just seemed like such a sad place to me. I really didn't want to look at it anymore. After this all happened Cody went to house without me to pick up things and get the mail. I was done.

I am happy to say that this is all over now. It is sad because of all the work we did on the house, but a year ago I remember saying,"Maybe this is all a blessing in disguise." It has been. Cody is now joining the Air Force and our lives are about to change drastically. All because he lost his job. He hated his job anyways. lol ;)

On a happier note we are approaching our Disney vacation. We are super excited. I found out yesterday that Disney World has a separate "Very Merry Christmas Celebration" during the time we are going. You do have to pay extra for it but I think its worth it. It is a beautiful Christmas parade and they even light up the castle! December is my last month with Cody. He leaves January 4th for basic training. It is very fitting the we sold our house yesterday! A great way to end the year together.

House Update, A Haircut & Other Randomness

After 2 months our bank finally had accepted the offer we had gotten at the end of August. {It was buyer # 5} A week before the bank accepted the offer, the buyer decided suddenly that they wanted to offer less. They went to the states auditors page and saw what we purchased the house for. They thought they were now getting ripped off after viewing the amount! Expect when we bought the house it was in a condition where it was close to being condemned!!! When we bought the home we financed an extra 30,000 plus dollars on top of the price the buyer saw on the auditors page!!! The buyer doesn't see that on there!!! Plus, we were selling it to the buyer for about $30,000 less then we owed on the home. Gee, who is getting ripped off here????
{Cody & I!! All that work for nothing!}

MasterBedroom

Above is a photo of myself ripping out the walls in our master bedroom. Notice that the ceiling is hanging into the room, which is where it rained into the house. This photo was taken by Cody standing in the garage. We busted through the bedroom wall so that we could just shovel the whole room out. {See more HERE} That is why we paid what we paid!!! Selling a home right now is horrible. Our house may not be "finished" or perfect, but Cody & I deserved to make profit on it. It is worth way more then what we are selling it for. It is really sad. It makes you so angry when people tear it apart and say THEY are paying to much for it. Anyways, we ended up not agreeing to letting buyer #5 offer less. We just let the contract go and moved on. We had a new offer within a week.

Now we are on to buyer #6. We have a closing date set for November 23rd. *fingers crossed* yet again! As long as this buyers financing doesn't fall through it will be a done deal. FINALLY. I know it is not over till it is over. Nothing surprises me anymore! lol

I am really loving my new apartment. I feel very comfortable here and it is really quiet. Even though we went with a much higher rent then we wanted, I believe it was the right choice. We are counting down the days when Cody leaves for his basic training. We are excited to start our new journey in life. I know I am going to have a hard time being apart from him for 8 months. In the long run though it will be worth it. There are only 5 places that we will end up living:

North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Louisiana or Guam!

Needless to say, none of these places were places we hoped to get. I hate cold weather and ended up with 3 colder states. Guam is an island that is very very far away from OHIO. For that reason, I do not want to move there. Louisiana is my first {hopefully} choice. At least it is warm! :) It is all up to fate. I will make the best of whatever we are given.

I have decided to make my blog a bit more personal. It has slowly gone in that direction and I know with the way life is going for me it will continue to be that way. Moving away from my home state of 28 years and becoming a Military Wife, My Mod Style isn't just about decorating anymore. It is also a place for me to preserve important memories and events in my life. My Mod Style is a design outlet for me and also just a cool way to keep track of my ever changing journey. Feel free to tag along with me or just enjoy the pictures of pretty rooms I post. :)

Okay, one more thing while I am going on and on. I talked about getting my haircut last week. I ended up getting bangs cut. I really hadn't had bangs since probably the 4th grade.

Haircut - October 2010

I plan to just let my layers grow out and keeping it more one length. I do like the cute little bangs. The girl that does my hair is amazing. I can always trust her with my hair. Half the time I just let her do what she wants. It is nice to find a good hair dresser!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Moving On and Forward

Well we have our house under contract AGAIN. We are onto Buyer #3! They are really nice people. Cody & I spent 2 hours with them in our house on Thursday. They had a house inspection and asked us a lot of questions. They are an older retired couple who are moving from a condo. They love contemporary style and shop at IKEA! It really feels like a great fit for our home! They understand that our home needs some love and repairs still. They can afford to finish what we can't. This is what I wanted the whole time! For someone to come and LOVE our home and take care of it. These people will do that. It makes it easier to let go.

My Office - Nov 09Master Bedroom - Feb 2010

It is weird to think of someone living in "my home". I have decorated and made it so personal and so "us". I can't imagine someone else's furniture and different paint colors on the wall. I am relieved that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for Cody & I. I know that it is not over till it's over! It is all in our mortgage companies hands now. They have to accept the offer. For now I just assume that this is over and contuine to figure out how to store all my extra stuff at my parents house! I have some furniture to donate to Goodwill and hopefully I will be able to afford a new TV stand from IKEA. Our TV stand is so heavy!!! I just want something light weight and easy to move.

*UPDATE: About 12 hours after I posted this,....they backed out!!! Can you believe our luck? I guess I jinxed myself! :P  Hopefully we will get another offer soon and it will happen "FOR REAL" this time. lol

My Bathroom {March 2010}

The last room in my house to be decorated :

My Bathroom Collage - March 2010

I kept this small bathroom simple. If I didn't have my house for sale the walls wouldn't be white. I would of painted it some BOLD bright color. I fell in love with the shower curtain from Target! It was something I thought I could use in my next place. I bought a Billy Bookcase from IKEA to use as a storage cabinet next to the shower. I designed the print hanging on the wall to match the space.

Here is a shot of the bathroom when we bought the house :

We ripped out everything! We put a small shower stall in the bathroom instead of a tub.

My Hall Bathroom - Finished!

Here is some photos of the bathroom with some decor placed in it....

Hall Bathroom - March 2010

I spent hours shopping for artwork to hang in the bathroom! In the end I just spray painted 2 cheap frames bright yellow and designed two prints on photoshop.

A room that was such a dark ugly space, is now so bright and cheerful! I love it. :)

I purchased new bedding from Sears. It is from Ty Pennington's Collection...

New Bedding / January 2010

I wanted a new look in the my bedroom. I want my room to be more "grown up" looking instead of all the PINK. Click {HERE} to see the old bedding. It will be awhile before I get finish this room. I used all my IKEA gift cards from Xmas for things to remodel our bathroom. The bathroom comes first!

Here is a design board I made a few months ago with ideas for my bedroom makeover...

Of course, I already found different bedding then I originally picked out! lol I am sure I will keep changing my mind! Now I have to hunt down some purple & hot pink throw pillows! {or make something!}

Goodbye Ugly Green Tile

{Remodeling the hall bathroom / January 2010}

The Day has finally come. We are finally remodeling our hall bathroom. This room is the reason we don't like to have company over. Its just embarrassing!!!!

Hall Bathroom - BEFORE - January 2010

Hall Bathroom - BEFORE - January 2010

I posted months ago my "design board" for the bathroom! I am so glad that I get to make my design finally come to life! Below is a photo of what most of our light switches look like in our house. The only reason they are like this is because the previous home owners pulled them all out of the wall. ?????? It will be nice not to look at this anymore!

Hall Bathroom - BEFORE - January 2010

Hall Bathroom - BEFORE - January 2010

As you can see from the pictures, the bathroom is small. It does have a tall ceiling though making it feel bigger. I plan to paint it white to keep it feeling larger.

The sink faucet we bought a few years ago, that will be staying! I am keeping the medicine cabinet and lights for our basement bathroom that we hope to remodel some day! HA! More like some "year".

I have gotten a few new things for my kitchen so I thought I would share some photos. I got the red & white rug at IKEA a few months ago. In the picture below you can see my new IKEA cabinet that I have wanted for so long!!! {link} It was a Xmas present from my in-laws.

We still have lots of "finishing touches" to do around the whole room. I guess a house is never "done",...unless you have endless amounts of time. HA!

I decided to put my tree up this past weekend. It is a little early, but I am working a lot the next week so I just wanted to get it done. :)
