Brass Armadillo & More Pyrex!

Over the weekend Cody and I decided to head down to the Denver Brass Armadillo. I think this is our 4th trip now, maybe 5th. I still enjoy it every time. We seem to always find what we are looking for! We wanted MORE PYREX. With all the booths there you really have to look because some were cheap and others were OUTRAGEOUS!

BrassArmadillo1 8.25.12
I always snap pictures of stuff that I find interesting or fun while antiquing!
The big "&" metal sign was $75. Cody said NO!
If you collect Barbies, there are a million there!
BrassArmadillo6 8.25.12
I am in love with the antique cabinet above! Seem weird?
I really want a cabinet to paint a bright color and put some of my toy collection in!
I would only paint something that's not in very good shape.
The cabinet above is priced at $449. It won't be coming home with me anytime soon. :(
BrassArmadillo5 8.25.12
The Pyrex above was very pricey. Very pretty to look at, but not affordable for me.
Then we came to a booth I could afford! You can see how happy I was...
BrassArmadillo3 8.25.12
I just started digging. There were so many colors and patterns!
I debated on the snowflake pattern. I love the color, but hate snow. LOL
Snowflakes remind me of snow, so I decided to pass on that pattern.

When it was time to leave, I told the cashier we didn't want any bags or the items wrapped.
He said, "Really??" and I replied, "Yeah, I'm like a hippie that doesn't believe in bags." He laughed.
I was so happy leaving the store without bags and wrapping paper! YAY!
So what did I get?
BrassArmadillo7 8.25.12
A whole bunch of cuteness!!!
BrassArmadillo9 8.25.12
My favorite thing I got is the bowl below.
We bought it to hold our coffee beans!!!
(We are such coffee junkies!)
This piece is actually Fire King!

If you missed it, you can view the Pyrex I scored last week HERE.
Why Pyrex you may ask? I want to be GREEN and plastics are harmful to our health!
I am trying to cut down on my plastic use and purchases as much as I can. :)
Plus Pyrex is just awesome anyways.

Thrifty Finds: PYREX

After watching the movie BAG IT, Cody and I were inspired to challenge ourselves to a less "plastic life." Since going Vegan we pack our lunch all the time and use reusable plastic containers. Everyone does right? We all have a million of them. Cody and I have decided that we are slowly going to start using less plastic. One thing we are doing is buying vintage Pyrex. This will replace all the plastic we use for left overs in our fridge. I found some awesome collections online that I wanted to share with you....

I love all the colors together. It's like PURE VINTAGE HAPPINESS!!!
I love that I am also shopping second hand. Too much plastic is being produced in the world and
these beautiful pieces of Pyrex are just sitting at antique malls and thrift stores waiting to be purchased!

Cody and I are thinking about buying a house and I keep thinking about how cool it would be to decorate with Pyrex.
We most likely would do a kitchen remodel and add some glass door cabinets to display all the colorful pieces!
So of course Cody and I were ready to start shopping.
We hit some great antique shops over the weekend and here is what we found... New Pyrex1 Aug 2012
We kept finding the small covered dishes in red and blue, priced at $10 each!
I am way cheaper then that. Plus I don't want the primary colors.
My favorite Pyrex pattern is Daisy, which is the large orange covered dish on the bottom.
We picked up a few other glass items as well.
A cute glass container with a yellow lid and a syrup dispenser....
New Pyrex2 Aug 2012
A few years back I started collecting the Daisy pattern. I have the mixing bowl set and a smaller covered dish!
It was so fun hunting for things with Cody yesterday.
I am so lucky to have an awesome husband who appreciates good vintage pieces!!!

Do you collect Pyrex? What pattern is your favorite??

You can view my other Pyrex HERE. I use it in my Alice in Wonderland display in my dining room.

Thrifty Finds {Decor 4 My Guest Bedroom}

Once I decided that I wanted to make a guest bedroom in our home, I knew it was going to have to be on a tight budget!  I really didn't want to just drive down to IKEA and buy a bunch of furniture.  I wanted to be thrifty!  I went to my local antique shops, thrifts stores and I was super lucky!!!
Thrifty Finds Collage1
The books are for guests to read.  I spent around $8 for all of them.
I found many picture frames that I can spray paint and frame some cute artwork in quickly!  I have to have the guest bedroom decorated by the first week in June.  I was so excited to find all this stuff because usually when I go thrifting I find maybe one or two things.  Here is a close up of the tacky floral art I found...
Thrifty Finds Tacky Art
I loved the lines of the frame!  I am going to cover the floral part with a pretty fabric or paint a picture to place in the frame, not sure yet.  I use scrapbook paper a lot to make artwork and pictures POP more...
Thrift Finds Woodsy Art
The picture frame will be spray painted white.
I love this Woodsy the owl picture.  The bedroom will have a very "Think Green" theme, so I found this picture very fitting.  This is also why I am trying to buy mostly second hand items to decorate with.  It really makes it fun and exciting!  I like looking at the room knowing that I saved stuff from going to a landfill, I saved tons of money and it has a cute vintage flair.  It's really a win win situation.  Here is some of the furniture we found for the room....
Thrifty Finds Collage3
I loved that Cody went shopping with me.  He actually helped me pick out the furniture.  It was nice doing it together and letting him have a say in what we bought for the room.  He loved the vintage chair.  (Probably loved the price more, $18!)  We figured it was a great chair to have reupholstered someday.  It does rock, so if I ever have a baby someday it's a great nursery chair.  I picture it covered in some orange vinyl!
Thrifty Finds Cody in Chair
I did also get a pair of chairs for our living room and a very cool mid-century modern dresser! I will have a before and after of the chairs next week! The dresser wouldn't fit in the car, so we have to go pick it up next weekend. I can't wait to get the guest bedroom decorated. I will be painting the nightstand and headboard this week.  You can see my design board for my guest bedroom {HERE}.

Thrifty Finds

I am so glad to be home again after my trip to Ohio. It has taken me a few days to get used to the Mountain time zone and my daily routine. I had lots of unpacking to do. Cody had the house so nice and clean,.....then I came home with all my crap. I did some shopping while in Ohio. I didn't buy to much, but I did want to share with you a few things that I found while thrifting!
Cincinnati Mug & Flour CanisterThrift Finds cincymug and flourcanister
I hope to find the whole canister set! (Sugar, Coffee & Tea)
Pair of Brass Lamps $8.00
Thrift Finds pair of lamps
I found the great {ugly} pair of lamps for $8 at Goodwill! Mandi from Vintage Revivals has taught me that anything brass and ugly from the thrift store can be transformed into something beautiful! Also, if you ever find a matching pair BUY THEM. It's a rare thing to find a pair still together. We are considering setting up a guest bedroom and these would be perfect bedside lamps. They will be painted yellow, turquoise or lime green. The best part about buying the lamps was Cody's face. So much fear. He doesn't always see my design vision. LOL I also got a few cute pieces of clothing while thrifting....
Bengals Jersey, Love is Everything Shirt, Jeans, Pink Skirt and Purse!
Thrift Finds clothes
I got all this for $12.69! The best thing is the Harajuka Lover's purse.
It retails for $14 new at a discount store like Ross. I got it for $1.99.
Bird Vase
Thrift Finds birdvase
This cute vase was only 75 cents! I love things with birds on them.
Globes
Globes
Apparently I am going to start collecting globes, as if I need another thing to collect! HA! I had thought about buying a few our last trip to Brass Armadillo but held off. Well we decided to go to IKEA and Brass Armadillo over the weekend. I picked up both the globes at the Brass Armadillo for only $35. Collection started. Globes do take up a lot of space, so I don't plan on just buying any. I like smaller ones which seem to be harder to find. I did also buy some goodies from IKEA. I can't wait to share them with you, but that will be for another post this week! Lots of decorating happening at my house. I want it to feel finished and more like HOME! Hope you all had a great weekend!

Denver Brass Armadillo {trip 2}

When I am antiquing I am truly happy. I love spending hours at antique malls looking at tons and tons of stuff.
The Brass Armadillo is at the top of my list!

The chair I am sitting on was only $62 and in fairly good shape. It was a great chair from the 1950's era. We got some coffee from the cafe that's in the Brass Armadillo. It took us almost 5 hours to go through the place. We needed the caffeine boost! I would have loved to have had the pink cat clock below. She had eyelashes!

Yes, I found Domino magazines! I know most of us miss Domino and I thought about buying them, but didn't.

I love license plates that look vintage. I may buy one of these next time I go back to the Brass Armadillo.

Toy Figurines - Flower & Flounder | Star Wars Pez for Cody | Cody with his Star Wars Figurine
Ohio Jim Beam Decanter | Kitty Figurine & Kitty Tin from England | Garfield "Born 2 Party"

I was super excited to find the Ohio Decanter for only $3.80! I don't collect Jim Bean Decanters, I just wanted it because it's Ohio. The Garfield made me laugh! I have many Garfield stuffed animals, but I have never seen the "Born 2 Party" Garfield before. He is now my favorite. The kitty stuff was just adorable!
BA kittys

I highly recommend the Denver Brass Armadillo if you enjoy antiquing. It's one of my favorite malls. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes! They have a small cafe' where you can eat or get some coffee!!! It's a great place to go this time of year.

Cutie Patootie - Penguin Planter

Okay, I don't know where I am going to put this little guy. I just had to have him! Penguin Planter
I found him at an antique shop for $1.25! How could I leave him? In all the years I have worked and shopped in antique malls, I have never seen a Penguin Planter. There isn't one chip on him! He makes me smile.

Denver Brass Armadillo

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We headed to the Denver area and stopped at The Brass Armadillo Antique Mall. There used to be a Brass Armadillo in Cincinnati. I worked there for a total of 7 years. I loved it and going to the Denver store really made me wish I could work there again.
Brass Armadillo Store Sign
The Brass had so much to look at! I believe there is something there for everyone! I took a few pictures of some things I loved....

If you collect Barbies, there are tons to choose from...Brass Armadillo Barbies
I got some toy figurines...Brass Armadillo Figurines
Of course the real reason I went to Denver was to try to get Alice in Wonderland Vinylmations, and I did!!!Vinylmations Alice & Me
I have to say the people that work at Disney Stores are so friendly and helpful! We drove 2 hours to get there and I asked them if they had a full tray/box of Alice, and the guy went to the back and grabbed it for me! He had a huge smile on his face when he brought it out to me! He knew he made my day. Most the Disney Store employees also collect Vinylmations so they "GET THE ADDICTION" of collecting! LOL Today I am heading to some thrift stores and antique shops. Tomorrow Mount Rushmore!

Inspirtation: New & Old

I was watching HGTV the other day and fell in love with this room designed by Candice Olson.
Candice New and old - Copy
The home owner had a combination of antiques and modern furniture. Candice reupholstered and painted some of the antique pieces so that they would look modern.
candice olsen 6 - Copy
I love this look! These pictures really don't do the room justice! Lucky they have the full episode of the show on the HGTV website! I showed this room to Cody and he actually really loved it also. I was relieved because I really want to do this in our next home. Here is a shorter video to give you an idea of the before and after...

A DAY IN INDIANAPOLIS

Yesterday my friend Dan and I went on a short road trip in Indianapolis. One of my favorite antique shops is located there, Midland Antique Mall. Midland is located in a huge warehouse. It always has unique fines and lots of Mid Century Modern furniture. It's a hip place that plays techno type music while you shop. I like it because its different.
Midland Antique Mall - 7.30.2011I loved this Indianapolis graphic poster
Midland Antique Mall - 7.30.2011Midland Antique Mall - 7.30.2011Midland Antique Mall - 7.30.2011
Midland has 2 floors of booths. There are showcases with expensive things on the main floor. Sadly they have no air condition in the warehouse, so we looked as quickly as we could. They have a decent selection of vintage clothes at Midland.
Midland Antique Mall - 7.30.2011
I loved this gold colored vintage sofa. It was only $80 and very comfy! If we would of had a truck, it would of been mine. I loved this display!
Midland Antique Mall - 7.30.2011
Dan and I went to the Castleton Square Mall to have lunch. Well, they had a Disney store which meant they had Vinylmations. They had a sale going on where if you bought one Vinylmation you got another for free.
Vinylmations 7.30.2011
I was super excited about being able to purchase some Vinylmations in person instead of online. Dan and I had a lot of fun! We also visited the Exit 76 Antique Mall. It is very large and has something there for everyone! I highly recommend it.
