What I Wore #7 {meeting Alice}

This is a different type of outfit post. The outfit isn't very exciting but the event that happened while I was wearing it was. This was our 3rd Disney vacation and I have always hoped to meet Alice, from Alice In Wonderland of course. She is my favorite Disney character and I really wanted my picture taken with her. I had never seen her at any of the parks greeting with guests. I always figured I would see her by the Teacup ride in Magic Kingdom. How wrong I was...

When you stay at a Disney Resort you get to ride buses from park to park for free. Our last day at Disney we decided to try riding a boat instead from Hollywood Studios to Epcot. Then from Epcot we would ride the tram to Magic Kingdom. It was something different, plus I love boat rides. When we reached Epcot the boat didn't drop us off at the usual front gate. Instead we entered Epcot in the World Showcase area. Epcot is the park that I spend the least amount of time at, so I don't know tons about it. We entered the World Showcase in the "Great Britain" area. We were heading towards the front of the park when I noticed a sign out of the corner of my eye that said ALICE really large. I stopped dead in my tracks and realized it was a meet and greet! Finally, I was going to have my photo taken with Alice. It seems so cheesy, but it's so fun to get your photo taken with the characters. It's really part of the overall Disney experience!

I waited for what felt like forever to have my turn meeting Alice. It was very hot outside and I kept asking Cody,"Do I look okay?" I felt like all my makeup had melted away and my hair looked like crap. I had hoped to do real outfit posts while I was at Disney, but found it way too hard to do. Too many people and way too hot. I dressed cute but didn't feel cute sweating it out all day! Anyways back to my story...


My turn came and Cody took pictures of me talking with Alice. It was very strange since I'm not a child and they talk to you in character, complete with her British accent! (Which I LOVE by the way!) The first thing she noticed was my necklace. An Alice in Wonderland necklace of course! Boy, did I pick the right day to wear it! You can see below that when Alice realized I was wearing "her portrait" she was VERY excited. Of course I laughed...



Then she proceeded to ask me if I had been to Wonderland and if we could go together sometime.



She asked if I liked tea because the necklace also has a teacup on it. Of course I said yes. :)

I hoped you enjoyed my little cheesy story about meeting Alice. I forgot to mention one other thing, but you probably noticed. She was as short as me!!!! This never happens so it's kind of a big deal. It doesn't happen very often that I get to look someone straight into their eyes! HA! It was a great way to end our vacation at Disney World!

Wrapping Paper Bookcase Backdrop

After searching for months, I finally found some wrapping paper to put in the back of my large bookcase in my dining room. I wanted something turquoise. I had found some cool fabric at JoAnn's, but didn't feel like buying yards of it! A trip to the dollar store last week paid off.

I found some crazy blue floral paper. I purchased two rolls for $2. It barely fit! The rolls were only 15ft long and I really could of used 16ft, so there are a few places where the white backing of the bookcase shows. For $2 though, who cares! I can always change it later. It's crazy bright...

It really makes everything POP instead of looking so plain and borrowing!
I got some great Alice stuff for Christmas! My parents bought me the Alice Cookie Jar I really wanted...I had to rearrange my original displays in the bookcase to get everything to fit. The cookie jar is rather large! I think it looks so much better now! I also got the Alice Precious Moment that I have wanted for a very long time...

When I first put the wrapping paper in the back of the bookcase I thought it might be way to bright and bold. I have lived with it now for over a week and it's grown on me, so I guess it stays!

Now I just have to still get artwork, a buffet and a new rug! It's all a slow process. lol

My Kitchen & Dining Area

Yesterday made 1 week since we moved in! I have been unpacking and decorating as fast as I can. I decided I wanted to keep the same theme for our new kitchen that I used at our apartment. I liked my Pyrex and Alice in Wonderland stuff displayed together. I also decided to put my large bookcase in the dining area...
I love all the colors together!The cabinet was a perfect place to display teapots, Pyrex and my Alice collectibles. I plan to get some 11X14 picture frames to put behind the displays that look empty. I have some great photos of Cody and I from our Disney vacation.The floral teapot set is one of my favorite thrift store fines EVER! I paid $15 for it. I placed the creamer and sugar jar that matches it in the kitchen area to help spread out the color scheme. I love the way my Alice Vinylmations look in the bookcase! I may also add some fabric or wrapping paper to the back of the bookcase to help everything stand out better.
For the first time in years, I am displaying the Hall Autumn Leaf pieces that belonged to my grandmother. I finally felt like I was able to work it into my decorating. Another awesome thing happening in the dining area is our new chairs...We purchased them from Big Lots for $30 each! We bought 3 chairs at one store and were lucky enough to get one more at another store. I was so worried I wouldn't end up with 4! They aren't my dream Panton Chairs, but I do love the color they bring to the room. They do sell them in PINK, so of course you know I tried to talk Cody into letting me buy the pink ones. He would say yes, but then pretty much beg me to get any other color. The blue really pops! Now I hope to find a buffet/dresser to paint bright yellow and place on this wall...I have many plans for artwork to hang on the walls. I just need money to do so. lol As far as painting goes, I am undecided. I would love to paint the walls a light aqua turquoise shade. I have to have it "approved" by the housing office on base. BLAH! I thought I could just paint. It's not that big of a deal, I guess I am just scared they will say NO to my color choices. I'm not a neutral kinda girl so I may scare them with my swatches. I am going to live here a few months before deciding to paint. I feel like we are probably going to be living here a while, so painting may be worth while.Okay, there is my 1980's kitchen. Why were these cabinets EVER stylish? Or were they? I would LOVE LOVE to paint these WHITE. I am pretty sure Cody would go to Air Force jail if I did that. lol Besides the cabinets though, I love the layout of the kitchen. It's great that Cody and I both can be in our kitchen together now. At our apartment all we did was bump into each other. It was very frustrating!

I will be searching for more goodies to put in the kitchen. It's a cheerful little place.

I plan to replace my actual cookbooks with vintage ones for decoration. It's way to difficult for me to have to get those down every time I need to use one. My kitchen is super cutesy, but that's what happens when you collect toys and vintage items.
I can't wait to just keep adding to it!

Some NEW & OLD Stuff

So I have spent the last few days packing, packing and packing. Cody and I spent Sunday packing up all of my toy collection. Even though I had just set it up, it was good to be able to pack it in an organized way. It was all just throw together before. This time I was able to label each and every tote with exactly what was in it. I never had a chance to share the photo of my Hello Kitty stuff...
The Billy bookcase also held some Vinylmations, Teddy Bears and other things from my collection. I also had hung what I call,"My Smurf Shelf"...It has cute little openings that Smurfs fit into perfectly! We also hung a cheap shelf from Home Depot above the shelf for another place to put some cute toys. (We needed a special place for Cody's Vader Helmet!) Over the weekend I also added a few new things to my collection. I found this great Alice In Wonderland little golden book for only 53 cents...The Disney Store had the White Rabbit stuffed animal on sale for only $5.99! I was super excited to finally have him...
We also stopped at all the local thrift shops over the weekend. I found a cute little hexagon table that I plan to paint. Not sure what I am going to do with it yet, but for $10 it had to come home with me...
It reminds me of my childhood because my parents had one just like it when I was growing up. Last but not least, a photo of my dollhouse...My dollhouse project is at a stand still right now! It needs way more money then I can give it. lol I can't justify buying hundreds of dollars worth of stuff for it. I don't even have dining room chairs of my own right now!! For now I just look for stuff at thrift shops and antique stores hoping to get lucky. It will just be a slow process. There is no way I will have my decorated and done when everyone else is! Oh well. Soon I will move again and have REAL rooms to decorate! Woo-hoo!

ALICE IN WONDERLAND {Books}

I saw this Alice in Wonderland book a few months back while shopping at Barnes & Nobles. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it! I love seeing all the different versions of Alice in Wonderland. The artwork that people come up with fascinates me! I hope to own this book someday. :)




I saw this last night at Books A Million. I found it a bit scary! lol Very cool though. I just don't know if I would buy it for my little girl.

I have a few Alice in Wonderland books. They are packed away in storage. I may bring them to the apartment though, since Alice is in my decor. :) I never shared a photo of one of my purchases from Disney! I got a very cool Alice purse. I love it dearly...

Painting Alice

I finally decided on something to paint on the canvas that hangs over my couch. I found this image of Alice in Wonderland and thought it would be fun to attempt to paint it myself. I will change the colors a bit so that it matches the apartment better.


I just started late last night. I used a projector to put most of the image on the canvas. I will go back and free hand all the small details. I spent about $13 on acrylic paints from Hobby Lobby.



I wanted to prime the canvas, but realized I didn't have any primer. It just means more coats of paint! Oh well. Hopefully I stick with it, this is going to be very time consuming. I just think the finished product will be wonderful. I smile every time I see Alice and it reminds me of Disney World. Did I mention we are going again in December?? We can't wait!!
