Kitchen Remodel Update

It has been a long time since I posted anything about our kitchen remodel. It's been a slow and painful process since we would rather be outside biking then cooped up inside working on our house. We started the kitchen remodel in mid-April. The kitchen has been painted gray and the cabinets have been painted white. Let's take a look...

I honestly didn't even recognize the old kitchen. When I looked at the old photo, I had forgotten how ugly it was. The painting took us forever. It was hard to stay on task and motivated. We did two coats of primer and three coats of Benjamin Moore Advance paint. The paint is pretty awesome. It has a super high gloss finish.

I really love our little chrome knobs. They were less then a dollar each because they were on clearance at Lowes. It's so nice having doors on my cabinets finally!!! I was sick of my house looking like this...

I'm glad to have my house back now. Things are put away where they should be again. The next projects will be installing new windows and counter-tops. After that we will put up our back-splash! I need to spray paint our light fixture that is hanging over the dining room table also. I have plans for a fun painting as well. We are kinda of putting off the rest of the work till the fall. We are too busy cycling right now to worry about remodeling projects. We figure it's better to do that stuff in the winter months when you are forced to be inside.

So what do you think? I can't wait to get everything else done.
It's going to be so pretty! Have you or would you paint your kitchen cabinets?

  1. It looks wonderful already, Jessie. I love how the colours of your crockery cupboard pop out against the neutral shades.

    1. Thanks Annika. That was my plan, to use my accessories for color. I wanted to play it safe with the wall color for when we put the house on the market. Lots of people don't like bright colored walls. :( I do and would of loved turquoise walls. Oh well, maybe my next home. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Painting your cabinets (as long as they're in good shape) can easily refresh your kitchen, as you obviously know. Looks great! What are you guys going to do with the back splash?

  6. Looks REALLY great! I can't wait to see it when the counters and back-splash are in! I agree with your timing too -- Don't want to waste any of the good weather! Here (Las Vegas) it's so hot in the summer, I wait until summer to do my indoor projects! (I just finished repairing some baseboards and door trim). I love doing stuff to my home too to make it "my own"! ~ Suzanne

    1. Yes, you have to do remodeling projects when you are stuck inside anyways. It gives you something to do instead of focusing on the weather. For you heat, me the snow! hahaha

  7. Wow! What a huge difference. I love the white cabinets! Oh gosh, I just can't imagine how much work that was! I actually like the counter tops. Do you need new ones? Are you thinking of subway tiles for the backsplash? Are you thinking of a new, fabulous light fixture.

Also, the cabinetry by the fridge - is that custom? Such a funny shape. Have you thought of taking the cabinet over the fridge down? That looks so odd, like an after thought. And it doesn't appear to be functional. The rest of the piece is cute. I like that you took the embellishments off the top.

Girl, I'm telling ya, you should apply to go on HGTV Star. Except, oh gosh, who wants to work that hard? I'd probably rather cycle too. :)

    1. Thanks Peggy!!

We are going to do white subway tile for the backsplash! I think it will be stunning. The counters are pretty beat up. We thought about painting then, but I don't really like the look of that.

I'm planning to paint the light fixture. We found really pretty round light bulbs (LED) at Lowes. I look forward to that project.

I don't know what is up with the area by the fridge. I'm glad that tacky trim is gone!! Hahaha

Design star would be so hard for me. I rather hug trees all day. ;)
