Vedauwoo I Love You, Again

Vedauwoo 6.22.13

Last weekend was full of outdoor activites. My friend Scott came to visit and we decided to take him to our favorite park for some hiking. I have featured Vedauwoo National Forest a few times on the blog already, view those posts HERE. Vedauwoo is like a playground for adults where you get to climb and jump around. Plus it has great scenery.

One thing I really wanted to do this year was photograph nature more. I am definitely doing that!

I know I've been a stranger online. I've been visiting with friends and hiking.
I also got a promotion at work, which means more hours.
Which is good because I am making more money to save for my tiny house in the future. ;)
What have you been up to?

Vedauwoo I Love You

Last week Cody and I celebrated our seven year wedding anniversary. I had to work part of the day, but after that we decided to head up to our favorite park Vedauwoo National Forest. I've posted about this place before and it won't be the last that's for sure. Sadly our favorite areas were blocked off and not really open to the public yet. Not sure why, considering it was eighty degrees outside and the middle of May. It was gorgeous! The perfect day to for a hike in the woods.

There really is something special about a place like this. Being able to get lost within the trees and let your stress melt away. When we moved to Wyoming and I first visited Vedauwoo I realized what a gift nature really is. Being outside listening to happy birds chirping all around you along with water running through a creek, it's pure relaxation. Guess what the best part is? It's free.

If you look closely at the above photo you can see the Rocky Mountains covered in a layer of snow.
The photo can not capture the beauty that I actually see with my eyes.

It was great taking the dogs with us. Little Muffins hadn't been on an adventure in a long time. She is doing really well since I switched her to a new dog food. I plan to do a post about it sometime. All I know is that since switching her to a vegan dog food she doesn't lay around all day as if she is on her death bed. We saw results almost immediately and now she is able to walk again. It's amazing really.

Yes, she looks like a little Chewbacca. She will get a nice haircut soon. She hates being groomed.

Now that the snow has finally left us we have been enjoying things like going to Vedauwoo, walking the dogs and riding our bikes. It means that my blog and computer time in general has taken the back burner. I have realized that living life and doing stuff is more important to me then designing some cute collage for the blog. The past few weeks I haven't followed a blogging plan or agenda. (Usually I do.) It's felt great to just share the things I have been actually going out and doing. Taking a step back from the online world has been very good for me. Designing posts can just be too much of a burden on me at times.

If I want to be a good cyclist that means I have to keep my butt moving. ;) The bike rides are getting longer and harder. Which means less time indoors and online. Our summer and warm weather seems short here in Wyoming. I need to be outdoors as much as I can stand it!!! I hope you are all doing some great things as well. The above quote is one of my favorites, "Look deep inside nature and then you will understand everything better." I urge you to find the closest National Park or State Park near you and visit it often. Get lost in nature and enjoy doing nothing. It's great for the soul.

Our Weekend - Cody's Dad Visits

For months Cody's mom had been plotting a surprise trip for Cody's dad to come visit us in Wyoming. She bought his dad a plane ticket and arranged for him to be off work a few days around Father's Day weekend! Cody's dad was so happy to get the surprise gift for Father's Day! Cody had not seen his dad since last year in August when we were in Ohio for only 2 weeks. Needless to say they were very happy to see each other...

I like having people visit us also because they get to see our new life.
The scenery in Wyoming is much different than Ohio.
I have already grown very fond of the plains, rock sculptures, mountains, parks and the windmills...

On Saturday Cody and his dad spent some one on one time together while I did a little shopping by myself.
Sunday was spent going to Vedauwoo National Park for a hike!
That was 2 weeks in a row for us! You can see last weeks post HERE.
Here are some of my favorite pictures I captured this weekend...

She loved every moment of it!

The picture of us is a perfect example of why you don't let a short girl hold the camera and take the picture!
My little arm just can't hold the camera out far enough.
I swear this picture of Cody and his dad was not staged!
I just caught a moment where they were both fascinated with the scenery... Vedauwoo FDay 4 Vedauwoo FDAY 5 Wyoming defiantly offers some beautiful parks and we have much more to explore!
I am so glad that Cody's dad was able to visit.

Travel: Vedauwoo, Wyoming

Over the weekend our friends Dan and Kara took us to the Vedauwoo National Park located in Wyoming about 45 minutes from where we live. It is the first National Park that we have had the chance to visit since we moved to Wyoming. It was a gorgeous day for a hike up the rock formations. We climbed up to an elevation of 8000 feet. We took Chloe with us to see how she would do hiking.
Vedauwoo7 There were people climbing straight up some of the rock walls. I bet it is so fun! Of course I took a lot of pictures.... Veduawood2 When we first drove in this was one of the first formations we saw from the car. Vedauwoo1 Chloe had no idea what she was in for! As soon as we got out of the car she was ready and excited Vedauwoo3
We started our climb to the top. Vedauwoo4
I love nature so much. The rocks were so beautiful. Everything so untouched. Vedauwoo5 Vedauwoo6 Vedauwoo9 We stopped to take a moment to enjoy the scenery. Vedauwoo8
Then a water break for Chloe and us. Then back to going UP HIGHER... Vedauwoo10
Chloe was amazing. She had never done anything like this and PULLED US most of the time. Vedauwoo11 Then we reached the top. What a view! Vedauwoo12 Vedauwoo13 Vedauwoo14 Vedauwoo15 Then we headed back down. Vedauwoo16 Vedauwoo17 Vedauwoo18 What do you do after a hike that kicks your butt? Get Starbucks. We had soy milk lattes by the way. Vedauwoo19
Chloe was so tired and went to sleep as soon as we got back in the car. It was a great day! Cody and I had a blast and feel so lucky to have met our new friends Kara and Dan. It's nice to find people who have the same interests as you do. I met Kara and Dan when I was working at the animal shelter a few months back. I actually adopted them out a dog. We got to talking during the adoption and really hit it off. Kara ironically is also from Ohio and grew up in a town about 20 minutes from where Cody and I grew up in Ohio, but we all ended up in Wyoming. I guess it really is a small world after all!
I am so glad I got one of the parks I wanted to visit off my travel to do list!
